Race Update: Great Barrier Reef Run

Last Sunday the Great Barrier Reef running event was held in Port Douglas. It is a running/trail running event that starts on the beautiful beach of Port Douglas. It takes the competitors up the famous “bump track” (360m elevation gain in 2.2km) for a loop in the rain forest. Having competed in the 2014 74km ultra I highly recommend this race, the courses and the organization are great. http://www.greatbarrierreefmarathon.com.au

To add difficulty to the challenge, the warm and humid weather of North Queensland is rough on athlete’s body especially during the last kilometres. Both Lisa and Phil, our two Hungry Runners experienced tough but rewarding racing. Congratulations to both of you.

Lisa completed the Marathon distance in 4:15:14, ranking 3rd Female. Great result and first podium!

Phil completed the 74km ultra in 8:13:13, ranking 9th overall 1st of his age group. Phil had a tough finish but kept it together. A new distance record!

Thanks to Phil Copp for letting me use his nice picture of Port Douglas. I invite you to visit his photograph page: Click Here
